Prestera Trucking was founded by Michael Prestera in the mid 1960’s. The company’s base of operation was located in Virginia.  For many years Prestera Trucking served the Virginia intrastate market only.  The company's primary customer was the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA.  After Mr. Prestera’s untimely death the company continued operation under the direction of A.H. (Dick) Meador.  In 1975 Mr. Meador purchased the company from the Prestera family.  Mr. Meador continued operating the company as an intrastate carrier until the mid 1980’s.  At that time Mr. Meador expanded the authority to 48 states and began servicing the Maryland, Virginia and Tennessee markets.

In September 1991 the company was sold to Dan Jeffries. He and his wife Pam continue as the owners today.  Mr. Jeffries brought many years of experience in the specialized trucking industry, beginning his career in 1975 with C.I. Whitten Transfer Co.  He held many positions through the years becoming General Manager in the mid 1980’s.  After C.I. Whitten sold in the late 1980’s Jeffries looked at the Prestera operation as an opportunity to use his experience to grow the company.

By October 1991 Prestera had began operating nationwide as a specialized carrier for the Department of Defense.  This was a continuance of the company's heritage and Mr. Jeffries experience.  Currently we operate as one of only a few motor carriers qualified to move commodities for the DOD.
